Digital picture frames have come a long way since over recent years, offering you a convenient and easy way to display your photos and stay connected with your loved ones. The best digital frame of 2023 offers dozens of advanced Wi-Fi and cloud features designed to meet the needs of large families and seniors, including remote control capability, easy-to-use menus, a range of options for sending photos, videos, and audio to any of your frames no matter where they are in the world! We explore everything you need to know about the best digital frames of 2023!

What is the best digital frame of 2023?

Pix-Star’s frame is arguably the best digital frame for 2023. It comes in either a 10-inch or 15-inch version and has a host of features such as free-for-life cloud storage, web album support, and access to both a mobile app and web interface. Pix-Star’s Wi-Fi & cloud frames are versatile, supporting wall mounting with a standard VESA mount or resting it on a flat surface using the provided stands.

Each Pix-Star frame supports remote configuration via the web dashboard, letting users manage and control up to 25 frames using a single account from anywhere in the world. Here you can adjust each frame’s settings, start slideshows, change slideshow sources, manage cloud storage, link and update web albums, and much more. It’s the ideal feature for big families, seniors, and modern homes.

Pix-Star’s frames offer more than just the ability to send and receive photos from anywhere in the world. They have a host of options for displaying and organizing photos and other media and create slideshows with a customized play order and frequency for different groups of photos.

You can set the frame to display the most recent pictures and videos more frequently, so families won’t miss any updates. Pix-Star’s digital frames have video and audio playback capability, allowing users to send audio notes and short video clips with sound from their phone to any of their frames.

Pix-Star frames are easy to use, offering a simple and easy-to-navigate menu and loads of photo-sharing methods including email, mobile app (Pix-Star Snap), and syncing photo albums from social media and photo-sharing sites (e.g., Google Photos, Instagram, Facebook, etc.).

Overall, the Pix-Star digital frame is a top choice for large families looking for a high-quality, feature-packed digital photo frame at an affordable price. Unlike competing frames such as Nixplay and Skylight, Pix-Star doesn’t charge any recurring subscription fees, giving you great value for money over the frame’s full lifespan.

Do the best digital frames of 2023 need Wi-Fi?

Generally speaking, the best digital frames of 2023 do not need to be connected to Wi-Fi to display media, create and manage slideshows, adjust the frame’s settings, and use many of their additional features (e.g., games, internal file explorer, etc.). Wi-Fi is still essential for setting up a digital frame, connecting to supported platforms such as a mobile app or web interface, and getting it ready for features like remote configuration, web albums, and accessing cloud storage.

Wi-Fi is also necessary for sending and receiving pictures and other media to the digital frame from various sources including email, mobile apps, and from social media via web albums – along with using features such as radio, weather, updating & syncing web albums, and more. Even without Wi-Fi, frames like the Pix-Star support loading and viewing photos via a connected USB or memory card, and don’t limit the maximum size of connected storage devices.

Top popular digital frames like the Pix-Star try to keep as many of their features as possible offline, including slideshows and settings. That being said, many digital frames such as Skylight and Aura may need to be connected to Wi-Fi 24/7 to use any of their features, including viewing pictures. It is important to check a digital frame’s offline capabilities and supported features before purchasing.

Does the best digital frame of 2023 charge subscription fees?

As one of the most popular digital frames for 2023, Pix-Star does not charge any extra subscription or recurring fees. Despite its affordable price, Pix-Star’s frames come with a host of Wi-Fi, cloud, and offline features, including free-for-life cloud storage, web album support, a mobile app and web interface, multi-frame control groups, remote configuration support, USB and memory card support, video and audio playback, and more – all without requiring a subscription.

By contrast, other popular frames like the Skylight and Nixplay do charge subscription fees for their features, with the Skylight requiring a subscription to access even basic features and the Nixplay offering a limited number of free features before requiring a subscription for additional features.

Pix-Star offers many of these features at a similar upfront cost to Skylight and Nixplay but without the need for any additional subscription fees. Pix-Star’s frames are among the best for value for money and a more versatile and easy-to-use experience for families without the need for managing subscriptions or login details.

Do the best digital frames in 2023 have touchscreens?

Touchscreens are often thought to be the more natural and intuitive choice for digital photo frames. However, many different factors impact their effectiveness on a digital frame. One of the main issues is that touchscreens can reduce the quality of the image due to fingerprints on the screen reflecting light and making it difficult to view the screen from different angles or distances.

Touchscreen digital photo frames are also generally quite a bit more expensive than their non-touch counterparts, especially for larger screen sizes (10-inch displays and larger). Touchscreens are often less durable and more prone to damage from drops or falls compared to non-touch displays.

Many digital frames with touchscreens are not particularly elderly-friendly or suitable for non-tech-savvy users. Seniors may struggle to navigate the interface and find the correct buttons to press, especially when browsing the frame’s internal storage and selecting multiple pictures at a time.

Finally, touchscreens may not be necessary on digital photo frames as many modern frames and brands like Pix-Star support efficient remote configuration through a supported web interface. Here you can perform bulk actions, easily manage the frame’s storage and content, adjust the frame’s general and slideshow settings, link and update web albums, and much more – from anywhere in the world.

We explore and answer the most important questions, show you what features are vital to getting your grandparents involved, and which digital frames offer the best value for money on the market today!

What is the best digital photo frame for grandparents?

The Pix-Star is arguably the best digital photo frame for grandparents in today’s market. With its intuitive user interface and powerful Wi-Fi and cloud-enabled feature sets, Pix-Star’s frames provide convenient access to all of your favorite photos and video clips without having to use a complicated device or frame.

The frame also has a large 15-inch screen that displays images in vibrant colors, so that grandparents can enjoy their special memories with clarity and sharpness, and not have to worry about text and photos being too small. Pix-Star’s frames can mount on the wall, using the motion sensor to wake the display up when your grandparents walk into the room.

Additionally, the frame comes preloaded with software that makes sharing photos easy between family members and friends. You can send pictures directly from your phone, computer, email, and even by USB or SD card. Pix-Star’s mobile app (Pix-Star Snap) lets you share up to 250 photos in several frames at the same time. The web dashboard lets you import and sync photo albums from external sources including Facebook, Instagram, and more.

All these features make the Pix-Star an ideal choice for grandparents looking to stay connected with the rest of the family while viewing their best moments in great detail, watching short video clips, and even listening to special audio messages from their loved ones – no matter where they are in the world.

Pix-Star’s smart features such as automatic cloud storage and remote configuration and management make it the ideal frame for families and grandparents. You can adjust each frame’s settings using the Pix-Star web dashboard, start and change slideshows, manage cloud storage, and more – for up to 25 Pix-Star frames and all from a single user account.

Do the best digital photo frames for grandparents need Wi-Fi?

Pix-Star digital photo frames offer the best viewing experience for your favorite photos, videos, and audio clips. Using state-of-the-art Wi-Fi connectivity, Pix-Star digital photo frames make sharing photos with your grandparents – and anyone else in the family – quick, easy, and from anywhere in the world.

With its simple setup process, you can connect your frame to a Wi-Fi network easily. Once you’ve registered your Pix-Star frames on Pix-Star’s web dashboard board and added its email to the mobile app, you can send pictures from any device: computer, phone, tablet, USB/SD card, and more.

Grandparents can view pictures from their grandchildren’s latest camping trip without having to wait for a USB or SD card loaded with all of their pictures! You can share photos in just seconds from your phone’s gallery, link social media photo albums (Facebook, Instagram, Google Drive, Google Photos, etc.), and even email photos.

Pix-Star lets you set the receiving frames to display all incoming photos in slideshows as they’re received. This ensures nobody in the family – especially your grandparents – miss another photo or important moment.

Can the best digital photo frames for grandparents view photos from USB?

Sending photos to your Pix-Star digital photo frame is simple and easy when you use a USB or SD card. Simply transfer the photos from your device onto the USB or SD card, and then plug it into your Pix-Star digital photo frame. Pix-Star’s digital photo frames have a plug & play feature that lets you play slideshows directly from the connected USB or SD card – without copying its content to internal storage first.

As Pix-Star’s frames don’t limit the maximum sizes of inserted USB/SD cards, you get virtually unlimited storage space as you aren’t limited by the local storage capacity. This is a great feature for families that want to involve their seniors or any non-tech-savvy users – and those that share loads of photos and other media. Pix-Star’s frames are one of the best digital photo frame gifts for grandparents.

How to send photos to the best digital photo frames for grandparents?

To send pictures to your Pix-Star digital photo frame for your grandparents, make sure that the frame is connected powered on and connected to Wi-Fi. You should also make sure you register the Pix-Star frame at the Pix-Star web interface, giving you access to advanced features such as web albums, remote configuration, cloud storage, and more.

To best way to send pictures to your grandparents’ Pix-Star frames is by email from your phone or computer. Open your email app and create a new email. Add the email address associated with your Pix-Star frame as the recipient. This email address is found in the frame’s settings. Attach the photos you want to send to the email as attachments – don’t drag and drop them into the body of the email. You can send multiple photos at once. The photos will appear on the Pix-Star frame within a few minutes.

Pix-Star frames allow you to send photos using the Pix-Star Snap mobile app or through their web interface as web albums. Web albums are photo albums linked from social media and photo-sharing sites like Facebook, Instagram, Google Photos, and more. Make sure to add your frame’s email address to the mobile app and register via Pix-Star’s web dashboard to access all of these features.

Does the best digital photo frame for grandparents run on battery?

Pix-Star’s digital frames do not run on battery power. They must be plugged into an electrical outlet at all times to function. Digital frames require a constant and stable power source to display photos and to support advanced Wi-Fi and cloud features, such as remotely controlling your frames, sending photos from anywhere in the world, remotely starting slideshows, and much more.

Most battery-run digital frames only have a 2 to 4-hour battery life, which is hardly enough for large displays and Wi-Fi-connected frames such as the Pix-Star. We don’t generally recommend buying a battery-powered digital photo frame for grandparents.

These frames have an optional “Plus” subscription that locks away several key features including access to the mobile app, expanding cloud storage, sending photos via the web interface, remote configuration, multi-frame control groups, video and audio supports, and more.

Pix-Star’s frames offer all of these features – and more – without charging any extra subscription fees. Despite this, Pix-Star’s upfront price is still the same – and often lower – than these subscription-based frames, making their 15-inch frame one of the best value-for-money options for a feature-rich, family, and senior-friendly digital frame in today’s market.

You can adjust their settings, start slideshows, change how the motion sensor works, and much more. These frames are perfect for wall mounting and offer an easy-to-use, inclusive user experience to make sure that nobody in the family misses another important moment!

What’s the best way to send pictures from Facebook to a large digital frame for families?

Pix-Star’s web album feature lets you import photo albums from a dozen external sources to all of the Pix-Star digital frames in your home & family. Supported external sources include Facebook, Instagram, Google Drive & Google Photos, Dropbox, Flickr, and more. Getting a digital picture frame with video adds a whole new way for you and your loved ones to stay connected. With the best digital frames supporting video playback, you can send photos from your phone to any of your frames – no matter where you are in the world. Save your videos to the cloud, manage them remotely, include videos in slideshows, set them to play muted by default, and much more. Learn how to find the perfect digital picture frame with video here!

What is the best digital picture frame with video?

Pix-Star’s digital picture frame with video is one of the best value-for-money frames available today. You get full Wi-Fi and cloud connectivity, remote configuration, wireless photo and video sharing from anywhere in the world, free-for-life cloud storage, a great mobile app, and web dashboard, and much more.

Unlike some of the other top digital frames with video, Pix-Star doesn’t charge any extra subscription fees or lock any features behind a paywall. We don’t generally recommend subscription-based digital frames with video as they struggle to offer competitive features at the same overall cost as frames like the Pix-Star.

Pix-Star lets you share 2-minute video clips and audio recordings from the Pix-Star Snap mobile app to any of your Pix-Star frames. You only need a couple of seconds to send clips and they’ll save to both the Pix-Star frame’s internal storage and the cloud. You can manage this cloud storage remotely using the Pix-Star web dashboard.

Pix-Star is unique in that you can include videos in slideshows alongside photos. Many of the popular digital picture frames with video don’t let you include videos in photo slideshows. Pix-Star even lets you set the frame to play the videos muted by default (or not to be included in slideshows at all).

While 2-minute video clips might not seem like much, it’s more than almost all competing frames offer. For instance, Nixplay and Skylight frames lock most of their video playback feature behind their subscription paywall. Even if you buy the “Plus” premium plan, you still only be able to play 1-minute video clips. Aura’s frames don’t support video or audio playback, and most mid-range frames have very strict video playback length limits.

Does a digital picture frame with video need Wi-Fi?

Pix-Star’s digital picture frame with video offers extensive offline functionality and features, despite being a Wi-Fi & cloud-connected frame. You still need Wi-Fi for sharing photos, updating synced web albums, receiving photos from the mobile app, web dashboard, and email, using the remote configuration feature, managing cloud storage, and more.

Pix-Star’s frames let you play slideshows while the frame is offline. Since all incoming photos are saved to each frame’s internal storage, you don’t need Wi-Fi for slideshows (unlike Skylight and Aura frames as they don’t have internal storage space). You can adjust most of Pix-Star’s general and slideshow settings while the frame is offline.

Pix-Star also includes USB and SD card support. Here you can insert a USB/SD card (of any size) full of photos and play slideshows directly – without having to copy the USB/SD card content to the frame’s internal storage first. You can even play music over slideshows from a connected USB/SD card without connecting to Wi-Fi.

You can use Pix-Star’s Wi-Fi and cloud connectivity to share photos from anywhere in the world. Cloud storage can be managed remotely via the Pix-Star web dashboard. There’s also a remote configuration feature that lets you manage up to 25 Pix-Star frames from one account. Here you can adjust each frame’s settings, start slideshows, manage cloud storage, sync social media photo albums, and much more.

Does a digital picture frame with video support a USB and SD card?

Pix-Star’s digital picture frame with video supports using a USB or SD card to share photos and other media. Pix-Star doesn’t restrict the maximum size of supported USB/SD cards. You can insert the USB or SD card into any of your Pix-Star frames and play slideshows directly from it without having to copy anything to the frame’s internal storage first – giving you virtually unlimited storage space for photos and other media.

Several competing frames such as Skylight and Aura frames do not support USB or SD cards. There is no internal storage and no plug & play feature. With these types of frames, you cannot send or view photos via USB or SD card. It’s an important feature for families that share photos in bulk and those with elderly users that aren’t very tech-savvy.

USB/SD card support should ideally be combined with extensive Wi-Fi and cloud features to offer the most robust and versatile online and offline performance that can cater to the needs of the modern home and family.

How to send videos to a digital picture frame?

The best way to send videos to a digital picture frame is via the supported mobile app. With Pix-Star Snap, you can send video clips right from your phone’s gallery to any of your Pix-Star frames – no matter where you are in the world. Set incoming videos and photos to automatically display in the currently playing slideshow. Pix-Star saves incoming video and photo files to both the frame’s internal storage and the cloud.

How long are digital picture frame videos?

Pix-Star’s digital picture frames support video clips that are up to 2 minutes in length. While this may not seem like much, it’s more than almost all other mid-range and premium digital frames available at this Pix-Star’s price point. For instance, the popular Skylight and Aura frame ranges don’t support video or audio playback. With Skylight Plus and Nixplay Plus subscriptions, video playback support is only extended to 60-second clips, half of what Pix-Star offers (without charging extra subscription fees).

Does the digital picture frame with video require a subscription?

Pix-Star’s digital picture frame with video does not charge any extra subscription fees or hidden costs. When you buy a Pix-Star frame, all of its features and functionalities are accessible. You simply need to connect the frame to Wi-Fi during the initial setup, register your frame via the Pix-Star web dashboard, and add its unique email address to the Pix-Star Snap mobile app. You can then access all of its features and advanced functions without paying extra subscription fees.

This isn’t the case for some competing frames like Nixplay and Skylight. These are subscription-based frames that lock a significant portion of the features and functionality behind their subscription paywall. We don’t often recommend these subscription-based frames as they charge the same upfront price but lock many features behind their premium “Plus” subscription; whereas Pix-Star offers many of the same features – and often more – without charging extra.

Finding the best digital frame for grandparents can change the way you connect and share with less tech-savvy family members and seniors. Some of the most popular digital frames cater specifically to grandparents while still providing extensive functionality for the rest of the family. We’ll explore what the best digital frames for grandparents offer, how they work, what to look for, and how to find the perfect digital frame for your home and family!

What is the best digital frame for grandparents to use?

The Pix-Star is one of the best digital frames for grandparents, providing extensive features and functionality catering to both less tech-savvy users and the entire family. Pix-Star’s frames come with Wi-Fi and cloud connectivity, letting you store all of your photos on the cloud and share pictures to any of your Pix-Star frames – no matter where you are in the world.

The Pix-Star Snap mobile app lets you share up to 250 photos to several Pix-Star frames at the same time. You can also send 2-minute video clips and audio recordings directly from your phone to any of your frames. The mobile app doesn’t require users to create an account and there are no subscription fees – unlike competing frames like Nixplay and Skylight.

Pix-Star supports a web album feature that lets you link and sync photo albums from a dozen external sources including Facebook, Instagram, Google Drive & Photos, Dropbox, Flickr, and more. These web albums can automatically update when you add new photos. Additionally, you can remotely manage web albums and start them as slideshows using the Pix-Star web interface.

The web interface has a remote configuration feature that lets you start slideshows from anywhere in the world. You can remotely adjust each of your frame’s settings, change slideshow settings, manage cloud storage, and much more. Pix-Star’s web interface is also where you can register new frames, create multi-frame control groups (with up to 25 Pix-Star frames), and import/manage connected web albums.

When you combine Pix-Star’s simple photo sharing, advanced features such as remote configuration support and web album support, and Pix-Star’s versatile slideshows and settings, it’s arguably the best frame for grandparents for the money.

You can start slideshows remotely for your grandparents, manage their frame’s settings, connect your favorite social media photo albums, and much more – all without the confusion and frustration seniors usually face.

Are the best digital frames for grandparents easy to use?

The best digital frames for grandparents are designed to be as simple as possible to use, while still providing modern features and functionality for the rest of the family. This is seen through Wi-Fi and cloud-enabled features that let you send photos wirelessly, save pictures to the cloud, and even remotely control your grandparents’ digital frames.

Setting up a digital frame for grandparents is usually quick and simple. With Pix-Star’s frames, you simply need to connect to a Wi-Fi network during the initial setup process. Once connected to Wi-Fi, you have to register the frame on the Pix-Star web dashboard to access features like cloud storage, web albums, and remote configuration support.

Adding your Pix-Star frames to the Pix-Star Snap mobile app only requires its unique email address. You don’t need to create an account for each user (as is the case with many competing frames) and none of the mobile app’s features are locked behind a subscription paywall.

Starting slideshows on Pix-Star’s frames is done with one or two clicks from the frame’s home screen. You can slideshows remotely using Pix-Star’s remote configuration feature too. Note that you can only start slideshows from saved web albums.

Is it best to mount a digital frame for grandparents on the wall?

Mounting a digital frame for grandparents on the wall is a great idea for 10-inch and 15-inch digital frames. Note that many of these frames also include attachable stands for resting the frame on a flat surface like a table or mantelpiece.

Pix-Star’s frame for seniors supports wall mounting the frame with a standard VESA mount. This is a robust and secure wall mount setup and supports both landscape and portrait orientations. Pix-Star’s frames also have dedicated hanging holes built into the frame’s rear.

Pix-Star’s frames use a combination of a built-in motion sensor, remote configuration, auto-on/off schedules, and a handheld remote to control the frame. Grandparents will have no trouble controlling their Pix-Star frames, starting slideshows, and managing the frame’s settings (with the help of remote configuration support).

Should the best digital frames for grandparents have a touchscreen?

Many digital frames for grandparents with touchscreens can often become tedious to use. Grandparents have to stand or sit directly in front of the frame to navigate slideshows, made worse by a confusing interface or unresponsive touch display.

Cost is another major factor. Touch screen panels are significantly more expensive for digital frames larger than 8 inches. Features have to be sacrificed to offer a touchscreen display. These sacrificed features often include must-have grandparent-friendly features such as remote configuration or automatic slideshows from incoming photos.

Do the best digital frames for grandparents need Wi-Fi?

Wi-Fi connectivity is a key feature of many of the best digital frames for grandparents. Pix-Star’s frames use Wi-Fi to let you send photos from anywhere in the world using email, the Pix-Star Snap mobile app, photo albums from social media & photo-sharing sites, and much more.

Pix-Star’s frames use Wi-Fi to give you remote control support for any of your Pix-Star frames. You can manage up to 25 Pix-Star frames from a single user account, adjust their settings, start and change slideshow, and import photo albums from a dozen external sources such as Facebook, Instagram, Google Drive & Photos, etc.

With that said, top digital frames for grandparents like the Pix-Star also work extensively without Wi-Fi. You can load photos to the frame via USB or SD card. Pix-Star doesn’t restrict the maximum size of inserted USB or SD cards and can play slideshows directly from them (without you having to copy their content to the frame’s internal storage before viewing slideshows).

Pix-Star’s frames include 8GB of internal storage, extensive USB and SD card support, and most of their settings are available offline. You can start slideshows while the frame is offline. All synced web albums are saved to the frame’s internal storage, whereby you can include them in slideshows, manage local storage, and much more.

What is the best digital frame in 2022?

The best digital frame 2022 has to offer is the Pix-Star digital frame. It comes in two different sizes; a popular 10-inch frame, and a larger 15-inch frame. Both of Pix-Star’s frames offer the same Wi-Fi & cloud functionality and features, including free-for-life cloud storage, access to the Pix-Star Snap mobile app and Pix-Star web interface, and multi-frame control groups.

Each Pix-Star supports wireless photo-sharing using the Pix-Star Snap mobile app, email, and web albums. The web album feature lets you import photo albums directly from a dozen external sources to any of your Pix-Star frames. These sources include social media sites, photo-sharing platforms, and some cloud storage platforms.

Pix-Star’s frames come with free-for-life cloud storage with automatic backups. Photo mail is saved to the cloud and locally to the frame as they are received. You can remotely manage this cloud storage from anywhere in the world using the Pix-Star web interface.

The web interface also supports remote configuration, allowing you to manage and control up to 25 Pix-Star frames from anywhere. Here you can adjust their settings, manage cloud storage for each frame, manage, import, and update web albums, adjust the screen brightness, and start slideshows. It’s arguably the best feature for grandparents as they can view all of the latest photos without having to do anything.

Pix-Star’s frames support video and audio playback, letting you play 2-minute video clips and audio messages. You can play audio files over slideshows, include videos in slideshows, and more.

Finally, Pix-Star’s USB and SD card support let you play slideshows directly from the connected USB or SD card without having to copy its content to the frame’s internal storage first. Pix-Star doesn’t restrict the maximum size of USBs or SD cards, giving you unlimited storage space for any of your Pix-Star frames!

What is the best digital frame in 2022 for families?

Pix-Star’s 15-inch frame is arguably the best digital frame in 2022 for families. Features like Pix-Star’s free-for-life cloud storage, mobile app and web interface, remote configuration support, web album feature, and extensive offline functionality make it an excellent choice for families.

Not only can Pix-Star’s 15-inch frames receive photos from anywhere in the world, but you can also start slideshows and manage each frame’s settings from anywhere. Once set up, Pix-Star’s frames can automatically update web albums to make sure all new photos uploaded to linked web albums are synced to all connected Pix-Star frames.

Pix-Star’s 15-inch digital frames can mount on the wall. They support using a standard VESA mount and have dedicated hanging holes on the frame’s rear. You can mount the frame in either landscape or portrait. Additionally, there’s a handheld remote for controlling the frame from within the same room.

Are the best digital frames in 2022 good for grandparents?

A handful of the best digital frames in 2022 include several elderly-friendly features. For example, Pix-Star’s frames include a remote configuration and web album feature. The remote configuration feature lets to manage and control up to 25 Pix-Star frames from anywhere in the world. You can adjust their settings, manage cloud storage, start slideshows, adjust slideshow settings, import web albums, adjust how the motion sensor works, and much more.

Pix-Star’s web album feature lets you link and sync photos from a dozen external sources, including Facebook, Instagram, Flickr, Dropbox, Google Drive, Google Photos, and more. Once linked, Pix-Star can automatically update and sync new photos whenever they are added – downloading them to all connected Pix-Star frames, making sharing photos with your grandparents automatic and as easy as possible.

Are the best digital frames in 2022 easy to use?

Several of the best digital frames of 2022 make a concerted effort to be easy to use across the board. For example, Pix-Star’s digital frames are designed to offer features and functionality for families and modern homes, while still being easy to use for grandparents and anybody that’s not tech-savvy.

Pix-Star uses a simple interface and a handheld remote controller to operate the frame. Slideshows can be started directly from the frame’s home screen with just a single button press. Even if this is too much for some users, Pix-Star has a web interface that lets you manage and control any of your Pix-Star frames from anywhere in the world (adjust their settings, start slideshows, manage storage, etc.).

Can I play videos on the best digital frame in 2022?

Pix-Star’s frames are among the best digital frames in 2022 for video and audio playback. You can send 2-minute video clips from your phone’s gallery to any of your Pix-Star frames using the Pix-Star Snap mobile app. Here, you can also send 2-minute audio recordings.

Pix-Star lets you include video clips in slideshows alongside photos – something that very few digital frames allow. You can also play audio files from a connected USB or SD card over slideshows. Pix-Star further supports connecting to external speakers or headphones to greatly improve the frame’s audio output quality.

It’s worth noting that some of the best digital frames in 2022 charge recurring subscription fees to unlock features such as video playback, audio support, cloud storage, multi-frame control groups, and more. Subscription-based digital frames include popular brands’ frames such as the Skylight frame and the Nixplay frame.

Does the best digital frame of 2022 use a touchscreen?

Only a handful of the best digital frames in 2022 use touchscreens. The main issue with touch displays on digital frames is how easily they scratch. This issue is made worse on glossy-finish touch displays, which are more common than matte-finish displays. It also means that fingerprints show easily.

Another major issue with touchscreen digital frames is their durability. The touch display is often the first part of the frame to start experiencing the issue. While this is certainly not a universal issue, it shows up a lot when reading through reviews of popular touchscreen frames on Amazon.

Finally, touchscreen panels on digital frames larger than 8-inches are quite a bit more expensive. This extra cost has to be recuperated from other areas of the frame – usually from its supported features and functionality. The result is that key features such as free cloud storage, full access to a mobile app or web interface, and more are often sacrificed.

We don’t generally recommend buying a touchscreen digital frame unless it’s essential. For the reasons above, and more, most of the best digital frames of 2022 such as the Pix-Star frame don’t use a touchscreen display. Instead, they use smart features like motion sensors and remote configuration support to eliminate most of the need for a touchscreen display – and extend the frame’s capabilities for the modern home and family!

Is a Digital Picture Frame That’s Cheap Worth Buying? https://www.pix-star.com/blog/buying-guides/digital-picture-frame-thats-cheap/ Wed, 19 Oct 2022 03:50:08 +0000 https://www.pix-star.com/blog/?p=3840 Learn everything you need to know about buying a digital picture frame that's cheap, what to look for, and if they're still worth the money!

The post Is a Digital Picture Frame That’s Cheap Worth Buying? appeared first on Pix-Star Blog.

]]>

Is a digital picture frame that’s cheap worth buying?

The cheap digital picture frame often turns heads with its cheap price tags and features that seem to compete with high-end frames. Unfortunately, this perceived value for money doesn’t always carry through to the real world. Features aren’t nearly as capable as premium high-end frames. Build quality often falls below what you’d expect from a frame you’d keep around for a couple of months.

Cheap digital frames don’t have great reviews on online shopping platforms such as Amazon. They rarely support sending photos over Wi-Fi, they don’t have cloud storage, and there’s usually no way to remotely control the frame via a web interface or mobile app.

High-end digital picture frames tend to be quite affordable compared with cheap digital frames. The price difference is small compared to the difference in features and quality. Value for money is important and high-end frames offer arguably the best value for money on the market.

Buying a cheap digital picture frame may save you money upfront, but costs you in the long run. If you have to replace a cheap digital frame every 3 to 6 months, you’ll end up spending more than getting a high-quality digital frame that lasts for several years.

Considering that these high-quality digital frames like the Pix-Star are still affordable, it makes them a value-for-money choice that’s hard to beat. For a little extra upfront, you’ll get advanced features like free-for-life cloud storage, extensive Wi-Fi & cloud features, remote configuration support, importing photos directly from social media, USB/SD card support, and much more.

Is the Pix-Star digital picture frame cheap?

The Pix-Star digital picture frame is not cheap – but is more affordable than most competing digital frames. Pix-Star sells a 15-inch digital frame and a slightly more affordable 10-inch frame. Unlike competing frames like Nixplay and Skylight, Pix-Star doesn’t charge any extra subscription fees. Skylight and Nixplay charge a recurring fee to unlock most of their features, access the mobile app, cloud storage, etc.

Compared to Aura’s frames (a popular high-end digital frame), Pix-Star is much more affordable upfront. Aura’s frames are known to be among the most expensive 10-inch frames on the market – despite not offering key features like internal storage, USB/SD card support, and video/audio support.

When you consider Aura’s high upfront cost and the Nixplay and Skylight frames’ subscription plans, Pix-Star’s frames become one of the most affordable digital picture frames on the market. Value for money is arguably the best you’ll on today’s digital frame market.

What to look for in a cheap digital picture frame?

The biggest concern with buying a cheap digital picture frame is build quality. You’ll notice that many reviews for budget frames on Amazon talk about quality control and the frame not lasting more than a few weeks or months. It’s very important to read through as many reviews as possible before buying a frame to get a good idea of how they perform in the real world.

Another key factor to look at is display resolution. Anything below 800×600 on a frame that’s 7-inches and larger is not good. Pictures will appear blurry and pixelated. Additionally, aim for a 4:3 aspect ratio as most of the photos we take on our smartphones are in 4:3 by default.

Make sure a cheap digital picture frame has at least 4GB of internal storage and supports using a USB or SD card with at least 16GB of storage. A bonus feature to look for here is a plug & play feature that lets you play slideshows directly from the connected USB or SD card (without having to copy its content to the frame’s internal storage first.

Do cheap digital picture frames connect to Wi-Fi?

Cheap digital picture frames rarely can connect to Wi-Fi for sending and receiving photos. this is a feature that’s limited to a handful of mid-range frames and most high-end digital frames. No Wi-Fi connectivity means no cloud storage, no mobile app, no web interface, no social media photo imports, and no way to remotely manage or control any of your frames.

Non-Wi-Fi digital picture frames are cheap due to their very limited feature sets. They usually only support sending photos by USB or SD card and often don’t have internal storage. We recommend buying a Wi-Fi-capable digital picture frame so that you can share photos with any of your frames, no matter where you are in the world.

What is the best large digital picture frame that’s cheap?

Pix-Star’s 15-inch digital picture frame is one of the best affordable high-end frames on the market. You get free-for-life cloud storage, full access to Pix-Star’s mobile app and web interface, multi-frame control groups (with up to 25 Pix-Star frames), remote configuration support, importing photos from social media, USB/SD card support, video and audio playback, and much more.

Unlike other premium digital picture frames, Pix-Star doesn’t charge any recurring subscription fees (e.g., Skylight and Nixplay both have a premium “Plus” subscription plan) and the upfront cost is lower than almost all competing large 15-inch frames.

How long does a cheap digital picture frame last?

Cheap, low-end digital picture frames are known to not be the most durable and well-built frames. It’s one of the main reasons that we don’t recommend buying cheap and budget frames. They often cut corners when it comes to the display quality, the frame’s material, and durability.

Spending time on Amazon looking through reviews for cheap frames shows the widespread concern over their quality. These frames often stop working after just a couple of weeks or months. Sadly, this often happens after the eligible return period of 30 days end, so there is no way to get a refund or return the frame (unless it’s under warranty).

We recommend saving up a little longer and getting a premium frame like the Pix-Star, instead of a cheap digital picture frame. Pix-Star’s frames have more and better features, they’re ideal for families and modern homes, and offer some of the best value for money on the market!

Is a Silver Digital Photo Frame Worth the Higher Price? https://www.pix-star.com/blog/buying-guides/silver-digital-photo-frame/ Mon, 03 Oct 2022 04:07:17 +0000 https://www.pix-star.com/blog/?p=3822 Learn everything you need to know about the silver digital photo frame, how it works, and important tips before buying!

The post Is a Silver Digital Photo Frame Worth the Higher Price? appeared first on Pix-Star Blog.

]]>

What is the best silver digital photo frame?

The Nixplay Smart silver digital photo frame is arguably the most popular in this category. Nixplay Smart digital frames are known for their high price tag, costing 50% – 80% more than competing 9.7-inch and 10-inch digital frames. Nixplay’s silver digital photo frames use a 16:9 display and cannot mount on the wall. There is no in-built wall-mounting system such as a standard VESA mount or hanging holes.

Nixplay’s silver metal finish looks great at first glance. It is polished and has great aesthetic appeal. Unfortunately, silver metal finished scratches very easily and you have to clean fingerprints off after each touch. The bright reflective finish is distracting and pulls attention away from the display – especially in well-lit and large rooms.

Nixplay’s silver digital photo frames are subscription-based, requiring Nixplay’s “Plus” subscription to unlock most of the frame’s features and functionality. For example, without Nixplay Plus, you don’t have access to almost all of the mobile app’s features, cloud storage is very limited, there’s no video or audio support, no multi-frame control groups or custom playlists, and more.

Does Pix-Star sell a silver digital photo frame?

Pix-Star does not sell a silver digital photo frame. Like most other competitive digital frames, Pix-Star uses a darker and neutral color finish on their frames. As such, the display appears more vibrant and is better suited to use in large rooms and well-lit spaces. You also don’t have to deal with the constant fingerprints and scratching that plague polished silver digital photo frames.

Pix-Star’s frames are among the most versatile and popular digital frames on the market. Unlike Nixplay’s silver digital photo frames, Pix-Star offers full access to all of its features without buying a premium monthly subscription. You get access to Pix-Star’s mobile app (Pix-Star Snap), video and audio playback, custom playlists, free-for-life cloud storage, web albums to import photos from social media, remote configuration, and much more.

Pix-Star’s digital frames mount on the wall and have a 4:3 aspect ratio. With a broad viewing angle, Pix-Star suits use for big families, modern homes, and large/well-lit spaces. The 4:3 aspect ratio perfectly matches the camera sensor’s aspect ratio for almost all major smartphone brands.

In terms of value for money, both Pix-Star’s 10-inch and 15-inch digital photo frames are arguably the best. They’re also one of the only premium digital photo frame brands that cater to families, elderly users, and modern homes!

Is a silver digital photo frame worth buying?

We don’t recommend buying a silver digital photo frame as they scratch easily and need constant cleaning for smudges and fingerprints. Polished and glossy silver digital photo frames are worse as scratching is more apparent. For matte finish silver digital photo frames, dirt and oil from your skin builds up quickly and don’t look great.

We almost always recommend buying a digital frame with neutral or dark grey color and a matte finish. They are less distracting and draw attention to the display. Any space around photos such as black bars from conflicting aspect ratios is less distracting and slideshows are more immersive.

What is the best cheap silver digital photo frame?

The JuLam silver digital photo frame is one of the better budget silver frames. It supports using a 32GB SD card and uses a 4:3 aspect ratio (which matches most smartphone camera aspect ratios). The 8-inch display has a 1024×768 resolution and you can play slideshows directly from the connected SD card.

With all of that said, these silver digital frames are also extremely limited in terms of smart features. There’s no Wi-Fi connectivity or cloud storage – or cloud/Wi-Fi-enabled features. You can’t share photos to the frame via mobile app or from social media. There’s no way to remotely manage your frames, sync up multiple frames for families, or mount the frame on the wall.

We don’t recommend buying cheap digital frames as they offer poor feature sets and often don’t last very long. More premium digital frames cater to families and modern homes, working with Wi-Fi and cloud functionality to connect families and loved ones – no matter where they are in the world.

Do silver digital photo frames last for a long time?

Silver digital photo frames do not last for a very long time. The light-colored silver display shows minor scratches easily – making the frame appear of worse quality than it would in a neutral color. Silver digital photo frames with polished finishes are worse for scratching and smudging, which is why we recommend getting matte-finish displays.

Silver digital photo frames with a matte finish aren’t much better than glossy finishes. Dirt and oil buildup from touching and holding the frame show easily and isn’t easy to clean. Darker or more neutral colors tend to do better in hiding dirt, scratches, and smudges – which is why top frames like the Pix-Star and many more choose darker, matte finish colors.

Is there a 15-inch silver digital photo frame?

Only a handful of the top digital frame brands offer a 15-inch silver digital photo frame. There are some minor brands such as Muxika and Rdeoud that offer 15-inch silver digital frames – but they are not common and aren’t popular – meaning you take on more risk in buying them.

When it comes to 15-inch digital frames, Pix-Star is one of the best – both in terms of value for money, and in versatility. Pix-Star’s 15-inch digital photo frames offer free-for-life cloud storage, a great mobile app and web interface, video and audio support, remote configuration support, importing photos direct from social media, and much more.

Pix-Star’s 15-inch frame has quickly become one of the most popular frames on the market. Its 4:3 aspect ratio is ideal for immersive slideshows and photos from modern smartphones. They mount on the wall, don’t have a distracting or easy-to-scratch frame, and have excellent built quality. Pix-Star’s 15-inch frames are available on the Pix-Star Shop or via their official Amazon page.

Is a Digital Photo Frame Costco Sells Worth Your Time? https://www.pix-star.com/blog/buying-guides/digital-photo-frame-costco/ Thu, 29 Sep 2022 01:53:30 +0000 https://www.pix-star.com/blog/?p=3818 We show you what digital photo frames are on offer on Costco, if they're worth buying, and how they compare with the best frames on the market!

The post Is a Digital Photo Frame Costco Sells Worth Your Time? appeared first on Pix-Star Blog.

]]>

What is the best digital photo frame Costco sells?

The only digital photo frame Costco sells is the Aura frame, though the specific models on offer vary. At the time of this writing, the only digital photo frame Costco sells is the 9-inch Aura Harper frame. Aura’s digital frames are known for their high price and relatively limited feature set.

Aura’s digital frames at Costco are Wi-Fi and cloud-only, meaning they don’t work without Wi-Fi. Aura’s frames don’t have internal storage or USB and SD card support. Aura’s frames stream photos for slideshows directly from Aura’s cloud. While Aura provides unlimited cloud storage space, it comes at the cost of losing many other important features.

For instance, Aura’s digital photo frames don’t work offline. You can load photos to the frame by USB or view slideshows from a connected USB/SD card. There are no features for remotely configuring or managing your Aura frames from anywhere in the world.

Unlike competing frames like the Pix-Star, you can’t import photos from social media and photo-sharing sites to the frame. Additionally, Aura digital photo frames don’t support video or audio. Rather, they’re designed to be “ambient” displays – something that doesn’t always cater well to families and seniors.

Can I find a budget digital photo frame at Costco?

The only digital photo frame Costco sells at the moment is the Aura Harper digital frame. Depending on when you are looking, you may also find the Aura Gallerie or any of Aura’s other digital frames (Aura Smith, Mason, Mason Luxe, etc.).

Aura’s digital frames are known to be some of the most expensive 9 to 10-inch digital frames on the market, outpricing almost all other premium digital frames. This higher cost is mainly due to Aura’s higher resolution displays – so there is a trade-off between display resolution and features.

Finding budget digital photo frames at Costco isn’t easy. With such a limited selection of frames and the Aura frame’s high price tag, this isn’t where you should look for affordable frames. Amazon offers a far broader selection of digital frames at different price points and with various feature sets. You can compare dozens of similar frames and find the one that best suits your home and family!

Does Costco sell Pix-Star digital photo frames?

The Pix-Star digital photo frame is not available at Costco, along with most other popular digital frame brands. The only digital frame that Costco sells is the Aura frame, with the Aura Harper 9-inch frame currently on offer.

Pix-Star’s digital photo frame is one of the most versatile frames on the market, providing features for modern homes, families, and elderly users. Pix-Star’s frames offer full Wi-Fi and cloud functionality, with free-for-life cloud storage, access to a mobile app and web interface, remote configuration support, and much more.

Pix-Star’s frames have a lower resolution display when compared with most of Aura’s frames – but they’re a lot more affordable. Pix-Star also sells a larger 15-inch digital frame, which isn’t offered by Aura.

Unlike Aura’s digital frames, Pix-Star’s frames have 8GB of internal storage, support using a USB or SD card, and support video and audio playback. You can include videos in slideshows, play songs over slideshows, and even play slideshows directly from a connected USB or SD card. For a full comparison, read our Pix-Star vs Aura digital frame comparison.

Can I return a digital photo frame to Costco?

You can return a digital photo frame you bought at Costco using either their online return method or their in-warehouse returns counter. The method you choose depends on where and how you bought the digital frame.

Make sure you keep all of the original receipts, product accessories, and packaging to make the return process smoother. Take the necessary time to read through Costco’s return policy and note any requirements such as eligible return period, product condition, refund vs replacement, and so on.

Should I buy a digital photo frame at Costco or on Amazon?

We don’t recommend buying a digital photo frame at Costco due to their very limited digital frame selection. On the other hand, Amazon offers the largest and most varied digital photo frame selection. You can find frames of any size and at any price point.

It’s especially important to have options when buying a premium digital frame. For instance, the Aura frame at Costco looks like a great frame with smart features and a good display. Compared with other top frames like the Pix-Star, you’ll see Aura’s shortcomings. Aura doesn’t offer USB or SD card support or video and audio support.

You can’t use Aura’s frames offline as they have no internal storage and require Wi-Fi at all times. There’s no remote configuration support or way to import photos from social media. You only notice these missing features when comparing Aura’s frames with other top popular frames on Amazon including Pix-Star, Dragon Touch, Nixplay, Skylight, etc.

Do digital photo frames from Costco work without Wi-Fi?

The only digital photo frame Costco sells at the moment is the 9-inch Aura Harper, and other Aura frames are occasionally in stock. One of the main complaints against the Aura digital photo frame is that they don’t work without Wi-Fi. You need Wi-Fi at all times to stream photos from Aura’s cloud for each slideshow.

Since Aura offers no USB and SD card support or internal storage, they have limited real-world use – particularly for seniors. Bulk photo-sharing isn’t quite as capable and you have to make sure Wi-Fi is always available for Aura’s frames to work.

]]>

How to send photos to the Frameo digital frame?

The Frameo digital frame is a 16:9, 10-inch frame that uses the Frameo mobile app – a 3rd party that enables phone-to-frame photo sharing mobile app. The only two ways to send photos to a Frameo digital frame are through the Frameo mobile app and via USB or SD card.

Frameo’s mobile app lets you share up to 10 photos at a time with your Frameo digital frame. These photos save to the frame’s 16GB of internal storage. Note that Frameo digital frames don’t offer any cloud storage feature.

When sharing photos by USB or SD card, make sure it is formatted correctly (NTFS). Once you’ve loaded photos to the USB or SD card, insert them into the Frameo digital frame. Now you can transfer the photos to the frame’s internal storage and play them in slideshows.

Does Frameo sell a large digital frame?

The Frameo digital frame is a 10-inch frame and is not considered a large digital frame. Most large digital frames range between 12-inches to 17-inches when measuring the display diagonally. Note that while 10-inch digital frames are currently the most popular frame size on the market, 15-inch frames are quickly rising in popularity too, with Pix-Star’s 15-inch frame being arguably the best value-for-money choice on today’s market.

We recommend getting a large 15-inch digital frame for big rooms like the living room or a master bedroom. They are versatile, offer a broad viewing angle, and tend to be more immersive. Since we are used to having bigger displays on our phones, computers, and TVs, getting a large digital picture frame is a very popular choice.

Additionally, large digital frames like Pix-Star’s 15-inch frame can mount on the wall as they support a standard VESA mount and come with hanging holes built into the frame’s rear. It’s great for filling up an empty wall and breathing life into a room and home.

Do Frameo digital frames offer cloud storage?

Frameo digital frames do not offer cloud storage or any cloud functionality. Frameo’s frames work through a combination of internal storage space, USB and SD card support, and photo-sharing via the Frameo mobile app. All incoming photos are saved locally to the digital frame’s internal storage.

For comparison, most popular digital frames offer some form of cloud storage. For example, Pix-Star’s large digital frames offer free-for-life cloud storage without charging any extra or hidden fees. By contrast, top frames like Nixplay and Skylight both charge a recurring subscription to unlock and expand cloud storage.

While we don’t recommend getting a digital frame that locks cloud storage behind a subscription paywall, it’s arguably still better than a digital frame with no cloud functionality. We discuss cloud-based digital frames in more depth and show you what features are the most important.

Can I remotely update my Frameo digital frame?

Frameo does not have a remote configuration feature that can compete with a top frame like the Pix-Star. Remote configuration allows you to manage and control your frames from anywhere in the world, through a supported mobile app and/or web dashboard.

For example, Pix-Star’s frames let you remotely adjust their settings, start slideshows, update firmware, manage cloud storage, set auto-on/off schedules, and more. You can use the Pix-Star web dashboard to remotely control up to 25 Pix-Star frames from a single user account. Pix-Star’s remote configuration feature is coming to the Pix-Star Snap mobile app soon too – so you get the best of both worlds.

Can I load photos to the Frameo digital frame direct from social media?

Often referred to as “web albums”, this feature allows you to import photos and/or albums from your social media to any of your frames. It’s not a very common feature and is only found among a handful of the top digital frames on the market. Frameo digital frames do not offer a web album feature that can compete with top frames’ web album feature.

For example, Pix-Star’s digital frames let you import photos from a dozen external sources including social media sites, photo-sharing sites, and cloud storage platforms, and even wirelessly from your computer. Supported platforms include Facebook, Instagram, Flickr, Google Photos, Google Drive, Dropbox, and more.

Once an album is linked and has synced to all connected frames, you can remotely start slideshows using Pix-Star’s remote configuration feature. You can manage web albums remotely, make changes to them, delete albums, and set them to automatically sync whenever you add new photos to a linked web album. It’s a great way to automate photo sharing in bulk for the whole family!

Do Frameo digital frames support video and audio?

Frameo digital frames can play videos with sound – but with a host of limitations. Firstly, the Frameo app only lets you send 15-second video clips to any of your frames. Once received on the frame, the videos are saved to a different directory than photos.

Secondly, you can play videos and photos in the same slideshow. You have to choose between showing photos or videos in slideshows, but not both. Additionally, videos are often cut off early depending on the transition speed setting for that particular slideshow.

Top digital frames like the Pix-Star offer 2-minute video clips, let you include them in slideshows alongside photos, and let you connect to external speakers for higher quality and more immersive audio. Pix-Star’s frames let you play music over slideshows from a connected USB or SD card and let you set the video to play muted by default when they’re included in slideshows.

Does the Frameo digital frame have a touchscreen?

The Frameo digital frame uses a touch display to control the frame, navigate slideshows, adjust settings, and so on. We don’t generally recommend buying a touch screen digital frame as they often lack the durability to compete with non-touch displays on a digital frame.

One of the biggest issues you’ll face is having to wipe the fingerprints off the display after each interaction. This is often worse on matte displays as the dirt and grime build up over time and is hard to clean thoroughly.

Touch display panels are more expensive for digital frames larger than 10-inches. This higher price often leads to some features and functions being sacrificed to keep the frame competitively priced with other frames with similar features. The result is a frame that offers limited photo-sharing methods, a limited mobile app, no free cloud storage, and more.
